Silal, Abu Dhabi’s new fresh food and agritech company, has signed an agreement with Agritek LLC, a major UAE based agricultural projects developer, to build large scale agriculture projects using the latest technology solutions on Silal’s development projects in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. This comes as part of Silal’s commitment to contribute to the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy, which aims to ensure access to sufficient and high-quality food.
Agritek will support Silal in the farm upgrade project announced in November 2021, helping Silal to support Abu Dhabi farmers through technology deployment and increase the volume of high-quality, local production of a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables with a goal to minimise dependency on imports.
Under the agreement, Agritek will develop farms for Silal and contracted farmers leveraging modern irrigation, fertigation and climate control management systems. These technologies will provide the optimum conditions for crops to grow, increase the efficacy of resource use, and boost farms’ operational efficiency. Modern nurseries will also be built to improve the quality of seedlings and seeds provided to farmers.
